Story/Histoire: Nicknamed "The Maradona of the Carpathians", he was a creative advanced playmaker renowned for his dribbling, technique, vision, passing and shooting. 
Hagi was considered one of the best players in the world during the 1980s and '90s, and is regarded by many as the greatest Romanian footballer of all time.
In 2004, he was named by Pelé as one of the 125 Greatest Living Footballers at a FIFA Awards Ceremony.
Surnommé le « Maradona des Carpates »3 et doté d'un très fort caractère, Gheorghe Hagi participe aussi à trois Coupes du monde (1990, 1994 et 1998). Il est élu joueur du siècle par les Roumains.
Hagi compte 125 sélections en équipe de Roumanie, avec laquelle il dispute trois Coupes du monde et trois championnats d'Europe. Il est nommé « footballeur roumain du xxe siècle » et cité dans la liste « FIFA 100 » des 125 plus grands joueurs vivants, établie par Pelé et la FIFA en 2004.
